Historians benefit from higher education.

Formal education gives historians an understanding of the basic, popular, narratives about our history. Historians are also often expected to have formal education credentials. Most of these occupations require graduate school. For example, they may require a master's degree, and some require a Ph.D., M.D., or J.D. (law degree).
